{31 Days to a Functional Kitchen} Day 3: Surge Protectors

There is a simple and inexpensive solution to protect your appliances. For around $20 you can protect that appliance from costly repairs or even replacement. If you have ever had a TV or computer fried by a power surge, you can understand the importance of a simple device like this.

Last year, we learned a lesson about our appliances - nearly every new appliance on the market today includes a computer inside.  Our costly lesson came when we had to replace the mother board in our refrigerator - that is right, our refrigerator.  Think about it, all of those digital temp displays, ice maker sensors, etc. are connected to a computer inside your appliance.  And it is not just your major appliances either.

TODAY'S TAKEAWAY...
As with any computer, it is important to protect your appliances against power surges and even dips in the power supply (sometimes called brown outs).

Assignment:  Make sure that you are protecting the major investments in your kitchen.  Head to the hardware store and pick up a surge protector for your major appliances.  Don't forget your laundry room too!
